May 12th, 1995 in Lagos, Nigeria, Prosper “OBI” Osinachi Onuabuobi, is born to a very musical Christian family. First, middle, and last, his full name carries with it much literal meaning.

Prosper: The flourish, to strive, grow and succeed.

Osinachi: Came from God

Onuabuobi: The mouth is not the heart

His Father was and still is a deacon, and his mother a church coordinator. His two older siblings pursue their passion of music by spreading the teachings of Christ through their music. However, Prosper’s passion was in Hip Hop music.

Through his early school years in Lagos, Nigeria, Prosper was the class clown, joking, and always with jovial spirit. But when alone with his thoughts, Prosper was thinking deeply. Socially antisocial was the phrase used by people who knew him best.

His later years in a Nigerian government boarding school was not all pleasant. Here, senior students would regularly bully junior students both verbally and physically. He continually found himself fighting his way out of situations. Majority of the schools practiced corporal punishment with what's called a “koboko” ; basically a whip used for discipline. Something all children growing up in Nigeria know about all too well. It was in his senior year he discovered the music that would inspire him.

“When I’m Gone”, by Eminem was the song Prosper took notice of rap and hip hop as a medium to convey his thoughts. He was blown away by the lyrical skill of top rappers and immediately got hooked on. He began to study the current greats his favorites among many include Jay-Z, J-Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and Nas.

In his final year, his parents decided he would be sent to Vancouver, Canada. Leaving his home and his friends suddenly at the time was not what he wanted but realized it would be the best thing for his future.

Straight to Canada and straight to college, Prosper attends his first 3 years at Columbia College for computer technology while developing his musical talents at night. His first studio recording, “Catch Up”, in fall of 2016, began his process as a recording artist. Prosper now spends every spare minute working on his passion, constantly refining his sound and always working towards greatness. Through his lyrics he embraces the challenges life throws his way, setting out to prove that anything is possible when you’re willing to grind.
